Nominations extended to Tuesday, 30 April.
In a bid to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of individuals to the sport of baseball, Baseball Queensland (BQ) has announced the inauguration of the prestigious Distinguished Service Award. This initiative aims to honour those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, commitment, and service to the growth and development of baseball across Queensland.
The newly established award comes as a testament to Baseball Queensland’s commitment to acknowledging the tireless efforts of individuals who have significantly contributed to the sport at various levels, whether through coaching, administration, officiating, or volunteering.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Baseball Queensland Distinguished Service Award to honour individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to our sport,” said Daniel White, BQ Director and Chair of the BQ Heritage Advisory Panel. “Their passion, dedication, and tireless efforts have played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of baseball in our community, and it’s only fitting that we recognise and celebrate their remarkable achievements.”
The award seeks to provide the community with a level of distinction to recognise those who have made long term significant contributions to the sport, that might not qualify for Hall of Fame election.
Nominations for the award are open to the public, allowing members of the baseball community to put forward deserving candidates who have made a significant impact on the sport over the years. The criteria for selection include longevity of service, leadership, innovation, and the positive influence they have had on players, teams, and the broader baseball community.
“We encourage everyone within the baseball fraternity to nominate individuals who have demonstrated exemplary commitment and passion for the sport,” added Daniel White. “This award is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on those unsung heroes whose dedication often goes unnoticed but is absolutely vital to the success and growth of baseball in Queensland.”
The recipient of the Baseball Queensland Distinguished Service Award will be announced annually during the Baseball Queensland Hall of Fame and Awards ceremony in September, where they will be presented with a medal and certificate to commemorate their outstanding contributions to the sport.
Furthermore, Baseball Queensland hopes that the introduction of this prestigious award will inspire others within the community to continue their efforts in advancing the sport of baseball and fostering a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.
As nominations for the inaugural Distinguished Service Award open, Baseball Queensland encourages individuals across Queensland to come forward and recognise those deserving of this esteemed honour. The Heritage Advisory Panel may choose to recognise multiple candidates in the annual award evaluation process.
