Welcome to GBL

Welcome to GBL

Welcome to all our GBL members for another exciting season of GBL baseball. It must be the start of a new baseball season – the rain is tumbling down!

The 2018/2019 season looks to be a cracker with a reduction of teams competing in Division 1 from 10 teams last season to 8 teams this season with both  Toowoomba Rangers and Western Districts electing to compete in Division 3.

This will make the Division 1 competition a very close affair with all  teams last season being very competitive. Clubs have taken advantage of overseas players showing more and more interest in playing in Australia and the import players will also lift the standard of play to a new level.

The Division 3 competition will be a lot stronger with Toowoomba Rangers and Western Districts competing hard with a view to improve so that they might have a chance of climbing back to Division 1 in the next few seasons. Narangba too were  close to playing in Division 1 so the Division 3 competition will be hard fought. The Baseball Queensland Development team is also playing in this Division – this concept was a great learning ground for the best young players in Queensland and again the team will compete strongly.

The competition has expanded to now include a Division 6 which will mean Division 4, 5 & 6 should be more even competitions across the board.

A number of grounds and fields have been or are being upgraded including Beenleigh, Coomera, Eagles and All Stars Field 2 at Bannister Park. Clubs are doing an excellent job on improving their facilities each season.

Good luck to all Clubs, teams and players and may the games be tough and fair.

GBL Baseball Judiciary Member – Expression of interest

GBL Baseball Judiciary Member – Expression of interest

GBL COMPETITION COMMITTEE
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
GBL Baseball Judiciary Member
The Greater Brisbane League (GBL) Competition Committee is seeking expressions of interest for
appointment as a member of its competition Judiciary. The Judiciary’s primary role is to
investigate behavioural complaints about GBL members in the course of the GBL Baseball
Competition and, where appropriate, administer penalties. The GBL Committee will be selecting
a register of 5-6 members from which a panel of three will make up the Judiciary for each
matter. The Committee will also be selecting a Judiciary Chairperson.
The positions available are volunteer-based and out-of-office hours are to be expected. Work
includes both consultation over email and, in some cases, hearings. Hearings are ordinarily
scheduled on Thursday evenings at SportsHouse, Milton, but may be scheduled at any time
determined by the Chairperson. The workload will be shared by the members.

Notes:
– The updated GBL Judiciary Procedures are currently being finalised and will be published as an
Appendix to the GBL Bylaws in the coming weeks.

– While it is difficult to estimate the workload of the Judiciary in advance, the past two seasons
have had approximately 15 referrals over the 20 week season with less than 50% proceeding to
a hearing.

Minimum Criteria/Qualifications
For the role of Chairperson, the GBL Committee is seeking someone who has legal experience
and is independent of any GBL Club.

Other members of the Judiciary may be associated with GBL Clubs (although independent
persons are preferred) but will be excluded where conflicts arise. Baseball experience in any
capacity is favourable but not essential. The GBL Judiciary Procedures contain important
processes which need to be followed. It is expected that successful applicants will be able to
readily interpret and implement the Procedures.

Submission
Expressions of interest should outline the applicant’s background, experience and/or
qualifications and any existing or previous club affiliations. These should be sent to the
Competition Administrator (Glen Long) at gbl@baseballqueensland.com.au by Friday 19 October
2018

CEO Thank You – U16 and U18 State Titles

CEO Thank You – U16 and U18 State Titles

On behalf of Baseball Queensland I would like to personally extend my congratulations to each and every player, coach, umpire, scorer and family who has played their part in the 2018 U18 & U16 State Titles. Both tournaments were filled with fierce competition and wonderful sportsmanship, as CEO I am very proud of the level of baseball these young men and women are producing.
Thank you to Moreton Bay Regional Council for your support through the State Titles and to Baseball Queensland this year so far.
The success of events like these are only possible due to the hard work and dedication of volunteers that work tirelessly in advance and during the busy schedule.  A big thank you to Narangba Demons Baseball Club and Redcliffe Padres Baseball Club for hosting the two events and for proving our teams with your fantastic facilities; we are grateful for your support during the State Titles. It is only through the collective efforts from all the individuals involved that will support the sport’s vision of, “Building a Better Future for Baseball”.
Well done to the athletes who participated in these two events, Baseball Queensland is very proud of the professionalism and pride you showed in this tournament.
