Women’s State Titles: Draw and Team Lists

This December, 143 of Queensland’s finest baseball players will be taking part in the 2018 Women’s and Youth Women’s Championships. Over the course of four days at Banister Park, Hendra, teams will go head-to-head and battle it out to see who will reign supreme.

The event kicks off with Women’s State Titles, taking place on the weekend of the 14th, 15th and 16th of December. This will be followed by the Youth Women’s and Little League State Titles, beginning on Monday the 17th and December, and concluding on Tuesday the 18th.  There will be a lot up for grabs over the course of the four days, as not only will the winners take home a state title, these titles will play a part in the selection process for the National Titles that will be held April 2019 in Canberra.

Make sure you come out and support these women at Banister Park as they compete for state glory and chase to square off against Australia’s best in the National’s. It promises to be a great weekend at the ballpark, so make sure you join us and don’t miss a second of the action!

GBL Women’s Finals.

GBL Women’s Finals.

This weekend is the finals for the inaugural season of the Women’s Greater Brisbane League. This will be the first ever finals, and the first ever women’s GBL champion will be crowned.

The women’s finals commence this weekend at the Redcliffe Padres fields. The games are slated to be 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 with the winners of each game playing off for the Grand Final and the losers also playing for 3rd & 4th position.

The undefeated Southern Stars take on the Western Bulldogs at 5:00pm while in the other match, the two Padres teams – Red and White – play each other in what should be a very entertaining game.

The winners of these two contests will face off in the Grand Finale on December 8th, which will take place in Redcliffe at 5pm. The bronze medal game will precede the championship game, getting underway at 3pm.

The champion will take home the Janelle Dunsdon Shield. The trophy was named after founding member of the Redcliffe Padres baseball club Janelle Dunsdon. She served for many years as a scorer, coordinator, and more, with both the Redcliffe Padres and across the state with Baseball Queensland. Janelle has scored at regional, state and national levels, and was responsible for the introduction of live scoring for Major A grade in Brisbane. In 2013, she was named the Volunteer of the Year by Baseball Queensland.

This has the makings of a fantastic weekend of baseball, so make you head to Redcliffe and witness some history!

GBL Women’s League: Round Five

GBL Women’s League: Round Five

Last weekend the 4 teams in the Women’s League played their 5th round at Southern Stars Baseball Club in Regents Park. The weather held up just enough to get two quality games of baseball in the books, advancing us one step closer to the playoffs.

Western District Bulldogs played Padres White in a very exciting and quality game of baseball resulting in Padres White taking the win 12-9. This game had some outstanding plays made by both teams, as well as some quality at bats and strong pitching. The sisters from Padres White, Amy and Kate West, both hit inside-the-park-homeruns to help out their team. The Bulldog’s pitching was very strong as usual but not sharp enough to silence Padres bats.

The second game was between Southern Stars and Padres Red, with Southern Stars remaining undefeated after their 11-10 win.  This close game was action packed with Padres outhitting Stars but the Southern Stars women made crucial outs to keep them in the game. Special mention to Kate Oppatt from Padres who hit a triple and to Erin Hewitt at shortstop for Southern Stars who made a fantastic out that helped Stars take the win.

After 5 rounds of play we have an undefeated Southern Stars at the top of the ladder, with Padres Red coming in second, followed by Padres White and tailing closely are the Western Bulldogs.

All teams will be travelling to Darra on Saturday for the final round of the regular season. Western Bulldogs will host Southern Stars at 2pm, followed by another Padres showdown at 4pm as the Red and White team go head-to-head.

See you out there for another fantasti weekend of baseball!
