Vale Ashley Anderson

Vale Ashley Anderson

The Baseball Queensland community were saddened with news over the weekend that Ashley Anderson tragically passed away following a car accident.

Ash has been involved in our Performance Pathway Programs over the last several years and a member of Surfers Paradise and Beenleigh Hawks Baseball Club throughout his junior playing career. His latest QLD representation was his selection in the 2021 U18 QLD Team. Following a successful QLD Showcase Event, Ash had been selected in the National Training Squad. His outlook on life, determination towards his development and infectious smile was a major influence on many players and coaches throughout Baseball QLD.

Baseball QLD extends our condolences to Amber, Cliff, Leah and Jade.

Today, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Shannon Fentiman announced the successful recipients from Round 106 of the GCBF.

“The grants are fantastic in supporting a variety of local community driven projects – from a women’s refuge providing much-needed accommodation for families experiencing domestic and family violence, to a humidicrib for a local wildlife rescue,” Ms Fentiman said.

The grants are used to assist not-for-profit community groups provide services, host events and upgrade equipment and facilities that benefit their local community.

“All of our successful recipients do fantastic work in our local communities,” Ms Fentiman said.

“For example, students in regional and remote areas will also benefit from a digital education package on cervical cancer, with $10,000 going to the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation to help them deliver programs where they can’t reach students face-to-face.”

Ms Fentiman said eligible organisations can get online and apply for funding under Round 108 from today.

“We know 2020 was extremely tough for so many Queenslanders,” Ms Fentiman said.

“These grants will continue to support our hardworking local groups and in turn create safer and harmonious communities.

“I encourage any community organisations including sporting clubs, P&Cs and not-for-profits to apply for grants of up to $35,000 for projects that will benefit their community.”

Round 108 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund is open for application until 28 February 2021. To view the full list of recipients from Round 106 and apply for Round 108 visit www.justice.qld.gov.au/grants.
